Question

HDMI

Sep 12, 2015 3:50PM PDT

Hello everyone, nice to be here.

I am having a problem with the HDMI socket on my Hannspree 37" YTO8 TV.

I have been connecting my pc to the HDMI without problem for the last couple of years now it suddenly comes up with "No signal".
Nothing in the pc has changed and I have tried a laptop also without success.
I have checked all the settings on both the pc and laptop and changed cables. Both computers fail to detect the TV as a monitor.
I have tried another HDMI monitor and it connects fine
If I plug my BT Vision box or my DVD into the same socket it works OK.

What other steps can I take to troubleshoot?
Is it possible that the HDMI socket on the tv is faulty to the extent that it will not accept a signal from a computer but will from a BT Vision box or a DVD Player? If so what is the solution?

Thanks for any help,
Mike

BTW, I have turned everything off at the wall for 15 mins, disconnected and reconnected without any joy. The TV is a Hannspree 37" YTO8 TV.

(NT) May have to set resolution, or use the VGA connection.

Since you changed cables and PCs one more thing.

Unplug all connections to the TV. Remove power for about 10 minutes to let the HDMI chips reset. Try again.

I will not duplicate ideas in what looks like your other posts on the web.

Another challenge is that this is NOT A 1080p HDTV but 1080i and may not work with many PCs. Even if it worked before. Any small Windows update and it's gone.

The Display Resolution: 1366 x 768 pixels means most PC users will not be able to set the PC to output a compatible signal. I'm very sorry to write that many will have to have a tech to come by to set the resolution output of the PC. I can't write how since we have 5 or more versions of Window plus hundreds of variations of control panels.

I can see why this will fail.
Note: Edited for spelling.

I have to use 1360x768 on my tv when connected with hdmi Happy

HDMI was "supposed" to avoid setting the resolution

But like good plans I bet a patent holder mucked it up for all.

Just a gentle reminder from my initial post:
"BTW, I have turned everything off at the wall for 15 mins, disconnected and reconnected without any joy. The TV is a Hannspree 37" YTO8 TV."
"I have been connecting my pc to the HDMI without problem for the last couple of years Nothing in the pc has changed and I have tried a laptop also without success."

I have tried every possible resolution on both PC and laptop.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes. That showed up after I posted a reply.

As to trying every possible resolution it sounds as if you didn't try VGA yet.

And since this is an UK model you get to deal with refresh rates as well. Since other HDMI displays work, my bet are those displays are newer and not some odd ball 1080i but 720p or 1080p.

exactly what computer model?

you said nothing has changes but things does change. there could have been a windows update that affected hdmi. my only suggestion would be to do a system restore to a saved restore point prior to when the problem started.

"I have tried another HDMI monitor and it connects fine"
I have tried a pc on Win 7 and a laptop on Win8, both connected previously.
This rules out the OS and or update I would have thought.
Thanks,
Mike

No it does not rule out the os!!! The things you tried are different and updates may have only affected the one device. Nothing can be ruled out unless you actually test the suggestion. Unless you try a restore point and provide the full computer model, IMO, you are wasting our time.

As stated there are 2 pc's involved both with different OS.
And don't be so pompous.

in that case, good luck

Remember, microsoft updates different computers with the same updates.
