HDMI to a LCD monitor?

by spikyone / August 4, 2006 2:00 AM PDT

I'm not sure exactly where this goes... but I figured someone in the forums would be able to help me. I'm a college student trying to eliminate the need for a regular tv. Now, you must be thinking, "What student would want to get rid of a tv??!?!?"

Well, actually I just want to be able to use my LCD monitor as a TV as well as a monitor. I've read articles about converters you can buy that will combine the computer's VGA signal with other inputs (coaxial, component, etc.), and I admit that's a good solution. But, my LCD monitor has dual inputs (VGA/DVI-D) and I just wanted to utilize both inputs. The computer is using the VGA input so I was hoping to connect a TV tuning device to the DVI-D.

So now, I'm planning on buying a DVR/DVD-recorder that has an HDMI output. I've seen the HDMI to DVI cables at radioshack and such and was wondering if it would be possible to connect the HDMI output to the DVI-D input of a LCD monitor. Any suggestions/help would be nice.

I don't really see any reason why it won't work

As long as the monitor supports the proper resolution (which I'm betting it does), it should work with no problems.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
