Question

HDMI on XPS17 problem

Hi,
I always have my computer hooked up to my tv (Samsung) via HDMI, and it has always worked perfectly fine. I recently went away for the weekend, and when I came back the HDMI output has seemed to stop working. when i Extend my screen onto my tv, the laptop and tv both go black, but i can see my mouse on the tv, and only on the tv. if i check dupicate screens, only my laptop screen shows, and black on the tv. if i choose tv screen only, then again i can see my mouse, but that's it, everything else is black.

i have tried restarting my computer several times, changing HDMI cords, hooking up to a different TV and also made sure all my drivers were up to date. not only this, but i have also tried to roll back my graphics driver to the previous version, but the problem persists.

i am using windows 10, GE force GT555M and Dell XPS 17 L702X

anyone have any ideas? is there anything else i can try ?

Thank you!

Tried

Hi,
Thank you for the reply, but i have tried this, and still has no impact. I have gone to GE Force website, and manually downloaded the latest driver for my card, and this still has not solved the problem.

looking at the link you sent, one of the largest differences i can see right away with the posted problems and mine is that they can still see their desktop, whereas my setup only shows black. i can only see the mouse, and nothing else, including desktop/start menu/any icons.

All the drivers i have are up to date, but even still the HDMI connection was working perfectly fine when i first upgraded to W10. So i even tried rolling them back to the previous version to see if there was potentially a flaw in the new driver release, but that did not help either.

Thank you

Since the mouse shows, did you

Did you try dragging something from the other desktop to this desktop?

There are so many control panels today that I no longer can write "do this." The industry has more control panel options than Republican candidates or pills at the pharmacy. Talk about out of control.

Since you get the mouse cursor it seems all so close.

Can't try

Hi,
I have not tried this, as I cannot see any screen. Once the HDMI is plugged in, both my laptop screen and the TV screen go completely black, I cannot see anything. If I am on duplicate mode (usually have it in extend) I can see my laptop screen (compresses because of difference in resolution on duplicate), and in this mode no, I cannot drag or see anything over in my TV screen.

Thanks

Very strange.

There was a person that claimed it was the HDMI cable. Never saw that, only heard about it. Quite the stumper there.
