Hdmi on tv does not work with dvd player only

Oct 24, 2008 5:11PM PDT

I have a Sharp lcd tv that has worked great for almost 3 yrs. just recently the screen goes blank when the hdmi connection is used. works fine with component. I connected the dvd player to Toshiba TV in bedroom thru hdmi and it works fine. 3 yr warranty on product. Repair people say works fine with direct tv hooked up thru HDMI. they say they replaced the board, got it home- same thing. took back and showed the repair place the problem, dvd player worked fine on their tv, but not on my Sharp. you hear the sound but the screen is blank- doesn't even show the dvd player brand name on screen when fired up with out a dvd in the player. Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you try another DVD player?

Unless they will exchange the working TV with yours the easy out is to find another DVD player.

unfortunately, i wish it were that easy. i have tried 2 other dvd players of my friends and they won't work on the Sharp now either, but work fine on other tv's. the fact that the sound comes through on the hdmi, but not the picture seems odd. Hopefully the warranty company will replace the TV, but i am not holding my breath for that

Sadly you need to have them show you THEIR player working with YOUR set. If that works then you have a solution (not a good one.)

But my bet, given your story is it will fail.

I have a good idea they didn't test it, just replaced the board. I am going to call them first thing Monday and ask this question. 'So if i bring back my TV - you will hook up your dvd player and it will work?"
Like you said i think i already know the answer. This is the second repair place the warranty company has sent me to, as the first one didn't have a clue what to do. I do not want to even tell you about the nightmare experience i am having with HH Gregg as to a Toshiba dvd recorder i am having problems with, that is also under the 3 yr warranty. HH Gregg said they shipped it by one of their trucks 2 weeks ago and the repair company has never received it. no one wants to take responsibility for that either.
thanks for your reply
