Question

HDMI not outputting audio

Mar 14, 2017 7:30PM PDT

Hello internet.
I have a HDMI cable running from my computer to my TV, which for no reason I can figure out has stopped sending audio to the TV (but the picture is fine).
I can't specifically see any anything out of place in the audio setting, but when I use the test option it says the device is in use.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to fixing this?
(OS = Win7)

Make sure your sound settings are set to digital instead of analog.

The fixes I've done id under sound playback devices because HDMI is both audio and video you need to select the graphics card and the playback device. Also in the past if I play the video on my PC before I connect the sound doesn't switch it comes out of the Laptop (Surface Book). When I reboot with the HDMI connected the sound then comes out of the speakers on my home theater.

Solve HDMI Not Output Audio

I know there is image from your tv but no audio. So you can do the two things.
1. Right-click the sound icon in the bottom right corner and choose PlayBack Device, and choose the NVIDIA Output as the default device.

If this cannot help, try to do the next thing, update the NVIDIA High Definition Audio Driver.

2. Open Device Manager > Find Sound, video and game controllers > NVIDIA High Definition Audio > Uninstall > OK to uninstall the audio driver.
Tips: Do not uninstall the Realtek High Definition Audio drivers, because the NVIDIA High Definition Audio is to control the TV audio.

3. Click Scan for hardware changes, the device manager will automatically help you to install the drivers again.

And if this cannot solve your problem, you can view this article: https://www.driverdr.com/windows10/how-to-fix-hdmi-no-sound-in-windows-10/
