HDMI cord...where's the sound? What cord do I need?

Jul 31, 2010 12:14PM PDT

Hello, I have a MacBook and own the HDMI/VGA cord (whatever it's called) and have connected the computer to the TV and get perfect picture...but there is no sound. What cord do I need to purchase so that I can get the sound from the computer to come out of the TV? Thanks.

with a vga connection, the sound should be coming out of the line-out or earphone connection. With hdmi connection, sounds should be part of the hdmi cable system so no other cable is needed.

Well, I connect the cord securely to both the computer and the TV but I only get picture...is the cord broken or something?

Of course that is a possibility, but...

anything along the sound path are also a possibility as well. You need some means of isolating the problem. Do you have a player with hdmi output connection? another computer with a hdmi connection, or maybe just another cable.

Another way of doing this might be to use the vga connection instead..if the tv has a vga input, then get the sound from the sound card output. Good luck.
