HDMI Cable vs. 3 RCA, what connections needed to monitor?

Mar 7, 2005 11:47AM PST

The sheet rock walls are going up on Wednesday, forever entombing my connection between my new Pioneer HD plasma monitor and the receiver.

My contractor says all I need to feed the TV signals, whether cable, DVD, S-video, VCR, etc. is the 3 RCA cables. But the monitor has an HDMI connection...

What do I need to connect the TV display to the box the cable company provides (or the receiver?)that will allow use of DVD and video peripherals?

All I can say is that's very poor design on someone's part.

DO THIS QUICK.....

Please run a digital line (HDMI or DVI) to your TV. You will thank me later. Might as well run component too because a lot of HD components don't support digital video. If the design permits, you might also try running a few cords so that you can pull wires through later if you change your design majorly. You might also consider running 2 more audio channels to the front as well (in addition to your center & front left/right channels) in case you ever want to "upgrade" to a 9.1 surround sound system with presence speakers up front above & slightly behind the screen.

dont use componit vidio cables
Jun 11, 2005 8:12AM PDT

My new Sony 65" t.v. looked terrible using componit vidio cables I solved my problem by getting a d.v.d player with d.v.i output and a giffen d.v.i. switcher so now I can switch between my Hi-Def sat unit and my d.v.d player you can also get adapters for your h.d.mi. cables so either run a d.v.i. cable or h.d.m.i cable to your t.v. and if you have other non hi-def componits like v.c.r lazer disk player you will have to use whatever cables they use line. s vidio . For some reason my t.v looked terrible using componit cables but using d.v.i. interface my d.v.d. looks awsome and my dish 811 system looks outstanding p.s. advice can your cable co. and get the dish 811 system I pay $39.00 per for bascic and the hi-def package I also added voom for $5.00 per month more also the 811 system has a over the air hi-def tuiner I live 70 miles from san francisco and with a cheap outside antenna I receive 18 local digital channels 9 of which are in stunning hi-def would like to hear from you GOOD LUCK cadillacstew@aol.com
