If you had no trouble installing your OS with normal drives, the extra work for SATA shouldn't stop you. But why change? It's not a big speed boost for most.

I have a Maxtor 120GB HDD (my last) that just crapped out. My PC is older but gets the job done. I was using the 120GB HDD as a storage drive on my computer.
I will need to replace this hard drive. My computer is not presently set up for SATA drives. Should I look into an SATA HDD (and the controller for it)or just add another IDE drive?
This HDD will not be running the OS but will still be responsible for a lot of file transfers. Anyone know if an IDE drive with a 16MB cache is comprable to a SATA drive?
Thanks for the input.
