HDD is not been detected........

Aug 13, 2007 3:31PM PDT

when a making clean install. Its my friends Fujitsu Laptop ( can't remember the model ). When the laptop is booted with the Xp professional product cd it boots ok but when coming to formating the HDD it says an HDD cannot be found and the only option is to Quit the setup.

So what could be the problem, I belive that the HDD should be replaced. But if its the HD then how does it boot without the CD.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks !

It's a SATA HDD in the laptop, which the XP setup program doesn't know how to deal with without special drivers. You'll need to find the SATA drivers for the system, and put them onto a floppy or CD or something so you can load them when at the very beginning the XP setup, it asks you if you want to load any special drivers.

Or reading and following instructions

Give people some credit, and don't automatically assume they're drooling simpletons. They get enough of that from the likes of Apple and Microsoft already, and all this "easy to use" crap. They were able to put together their original post, so doesn't it seem reasonable to assume they can read and follow the instructions printed on screen during the XP setup program?
