HDD Diagnostics.....

by hawker505 / October 18, 2007 5:42 AM PDT

My friend has a Acer TravelMate 4000 series Laptop.....with Windows Xp Home Edition, 1.60Ghz Intel Pentium, 60GB HDD, 256MB Ram. The Pc was slow i mean dead slow. The HDD has been partioned into to partions, C & D. D: drive has some data to backed up. This drive cannot be access from Windows...... says it has to be fromated before it can be accessed.

I tried using Bart-PE to access the D drive but had no luck. I've checked the disk management and found that the drive is healthy. Latter i formated and installed the OS again. Still the drive cannot be accessed. During the installation i found tat the file system for c was FAT32 and D drive was UNKNOWN.

Earlier i had run a check disk and found that there were 64kb of bad sector in C drive.

Now where can i get a tool to access the D drive and test the HDD. This is a Toshiba HDD.

But as your story goes, it sounds like the old "I forgot" to backup issue.

Good luck,
