HD Tuner
Sep 22, 2005 2:47AM PDT

If I understand you question, I believe the answer is No. This HD tuner does not take SD signals and "make" them HD, but what it does do is allow you to receive HD broadcast signals and route them to your HD-ready TV. I have an HD-ready TV, but to view HD broadcasts I need an HD tuner, so this would solve this for me. On this tuner, it also allows SD (Standard Def) broadcast signals to reach your TV too. My HDTV comes with a built-in SD tuner (most do) but to watch HD channels, I need an HD tuner. Now, the big question is: If I (or you) bought this HD tuner, would you still need to upgrade your cable service to "digital" so you could receive the HD signals they broadcast? I believe so. Or, get Dish and pay for their HD signals. For both cable and satellite services, they would be "selling" or "renting" your their HD receiver at add'l cost, so in theory, the tuner you are considering would eliminate the need to buy their tuner.

Another Question
Sep 22, 2005 8:26AM PDT

that answered my question thanks Dan....
But i have another one: Since the Samsung Tuner has SD input capabilities, can i plug my SD Cable into that and use the DVI output and put that into my Plasma, so it would just be basically ouputting the SD signal filtering it through the box so i can get that connection DVI connection type... I know this sounds ridiculous but its because my TV only allows me to use my PiP feature if one of the Signals is coming from HDMI or DVI..........
Or maybe there is a product out there that converts the SD input to a DVI or HDMI connection.. if you know of one that would help too!

This an Over The Air HD tunner, for reciving broadcast HDTV signals.

You didn't give any info on you HDTV, specs, inputs, etc.

To recive cable HD you need a QAM tuner, This is what the cable box has in it. In Cable the premium channels are scrambled, the cable box has the descrambler.
DirectTv or Dishnetwork, all of the functions are built into there reciver BOX.

How close are you to a major city??? If your within 40~50 miles this will allow you to recive FREE OTA HD broadcasts. John
