Try a HD Antenna if your area has free OTA (over the air) broadcasts.

Most content is just upconverted old content. Some folk are still upset about that. But since you have 1080 today you many not know that the 720 support is in there too. That is, it's a setting in the directtv set top box.

There are too many discussions about 5.1 sound such as http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/system-setup-connection/20772-direct-tv-dolby-surround-sound.html but for most of us the setup is nothing short of "you have got to be kidding me."

That is, the industry didn't standardize so we have a mess.

5.1 sound.

If your stereo sound system can handle 5.1, then connect the sound out from the Directv HD receiver, directly into your Stereo sound system.

As Bob mentioned, you TV can already do 720p and your Directv HD receiver will adjust automatically to that setting whenever it needs to.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
