HD Duplicate Appears in My Computer & Explorer

Specs: Win ME, Pentium 1.4 ghz 256 ram a floppy, 2 Maxtor hard disks (C and D), a cd writer and a CD ROM.

Last night while using IE 5 there appeared a message "disk write error to drive c. Data may be lost." When I restarted Windows ran a thorough scan but didnt report any errors.

Afterwards, I saw a "ghost" drive there named drive E.

It has the same contents as the C drive. When I checked Windows Explorer drive E was also there. When I looked in Sytem in My Computer, there were two HD listed, but the drive letters assigned were D and E.

Everytime the PC boots scandisk checks E for improper shutdown. When I run Norton Disk Doctor, it says "Error on Disk 1. The bootable partition can't be booted from". However, there are no problems running any application.

Thanks,
