hd capturing time

how long is the normal rate to capture hd footage into your computer. is it real time or slower. i was importing some video from my hv20 to imovie and it was importing around 1/4 speed. is this normal?

Yes. HiDef video import is not realtime on most

computers... though I understand on the new MacPro tower it is.

On my 2 year old Apple Macintosh 2 GHz 5 flatpanel iMac is is generally between 1/2 and 3/4 time when importing hidef video from my Sony HDR-HC1. Just so you know, that high-def video is 3x4x more data than standard definition. There is a LOT of number crunching going on.

Also keep in mind that this translates to taking up more hard drive space, too... 1 hour will take about 30 gig.
