Fdisk is easily confused by DRIVE EXTENDERS such as Drive Manager, EZDrive and others. Many will use such "because it came with the drive" and only later learn what pitfalls await them in the future.
I have two HD's installed on my computer: HD1 (IBM) master (20gbs) and HD2 (WD) slave (20gbs). WindowsXP was installed on Drive1 and Apps on Drive2. While repartitioning drive2 I accidentally deleted WinXP from drive 1. I have installed Win98SE on drive 1 and it is performing normally, however when I tried to partition drive 2(WD) I received the following message:Setup of Drive 2 failed because there was a device error reading sect 0 count 1. Fdisking drive status showed the following: Current fixed disk Drive 2 ;Partition 1 Extended Dos 14320; C:\ 2 Pri Dos 2900;Extended Dos has logical Dos Drives. Extended Dos D 10740; E 3500; Total extended 14370.
Current Fixed Drive 1;Partition 1 Non Dos 9805; Partition 2 Non Dos 9819; total disk space 19624.
Questions: 1)SINCE win98 is operating normally and is on masdter drive 1 why does fdisk show it as drive 2?; 2)_ Why is C:\ Pri Dos in partition 2 instead of partition 1; 3) Can this numbers game be resolved without uninstalling, reinstalling etc.
I intend to install and dual boot WinXP on drive 2. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve my problem.
