Unable to download
Sep 5, 2010 12:12PM PDT

Using Vista Home Premium, Version 6, 32 bit and Internet Explorer v. 8, AVG's free Antivirus pkg. We have two computers using Vista (2 separate Vista packages) and have same problems on both. When downloading, we get as far as "Run" and then nothing else. Sometimes the "downloads" show up as just an icon in Temporary Folders. We are not given a choice as to where the download should go. I created a desktop folder called "My Downloads" but unable to send anything to it. Have attempted to download Firefox and Download Accelerator Plus as recommended this site, but just get as far as "Run." I have tried to contact Microft Support; they require the product identification no. to determine if I can have free advice; I give the correct number and they reject it saying they can't identify it. Without their accepting it I have to pay $49.95 to ask a question. I am definitely techno-challenged. Any help will be sincerely appreciated.

Do not use Run.

Are you using Internet Explorer?

If so, don't click Run. Click Save then IE should display a "Save As" dialog asking where you want to save the files to. I normally select "Desktop".

Why save instead of Run? That gives me the opportunity of scanning downloaded files for viruses before running them.
