Having problem of showing some part of Chinese characters...

Mar 22, 2007 5:29PM PDT

I have just purchased Vista Ultimate, but some Chinese are shown in messed symbols. Do i need to download amy language pack from internet? I have the CD but have no idea how to install Chinses language. I can type Chinese in fact but don't know why some Chinsese cannot be shown.

Two questions...
Mar 23, 2007 3:29AM PDT

1.) What language/region is this copy of Vista for? (ex English/US, Mandarin/China, etc.)

2.) Are the Chinese characters part of the Vista interface, in a text document, webpage, or... Basically, name the specific program there is a problem in or that it's happening in all programs.

Let us know.
John

First of all, thx for your concern! It should be Vista Home Premium, not Ultimate.

1) It is for English
2) I can type Chinese no problem. But i have installed an extra Chinese typing program, during the configuration, all the Chinese instruction are in messed symbols, so i cannot configure. And also cannot type Chinese using the progam. The video files with Chinese names are all in messed symbols which i cannot tell what name it is. All the music files can see the Chinese names, but the details like the singer name, album, etc, are in messed symbols. But for internet, i can view all the Chinese web sites no problem.

Ouch...

That one correction makes all the difference. While Vista Ultimate supports language packs, Home Premium does not, making this problem far more difficult since you can't simply update Vista to natively support Chinese characters. That means that the names, album titles, etc. that display in Windows Media Player, Windows Explorer, etc. may never be rendered properly. The typing program issue seems odd, though, since it should be able to perform its duties regardless of the OS's native language. That's one I'm not quite sure what to do with, so hopefully someone else has a suggestion.

Good luck.

Have someone found the solution to this problem?

Has anyone found the solution to this problem? I am having the same issue.

I have vista home. I can read/type Chinese. But the artist's and album's names of my music files are messed up (the file name are good).

Thanks.
