having problem in downgrading from VISTA to XP

system information
i have a compaqpressario desktop , with 2.93Ghz pentium processor , 40Gb of internal SATA harddisk , with DVD and CD drives. 640mb DDR1 ram
i had XP os and i changed it to VISTA a month ago .
i was not feeling comfortable with VISTA ,so i wanted to change it back to Xp.
but, when i insert the Xp installation disk , it displays
" press any key to boot from the CD or DVD ... "
and i press a key , it stops working , the stops rotating .. and i am made to reinstall VISTA which is successfull..

anyone out there , plz help me out of this problem....

Two initial thoughts...

1.) The Windows XP CD has been damaged and a new one needs to be ordered from the manufacturer.
2.) If the disc is fine, use DBAN to wipe the contents of the hard drive and then try installing Windows XP again.

SOLVE PROBLEM MAYBE

Im not sure but you can go to ssystem restore on vista (START, Type SYSTEM RESTORE)then go to when you installed vista(Check the Box for older than 5 days) and restore back to XP!

System Restore does not let you reverse an upgrade from one version of Windows to another, nor does it typically keep restore points from over a month ago. It would be a nice way of reverting back to Windows XP, but it is a non-starter at this time.
