Question

Having network connection problems, help??

Jan 6, 2015 1:24AM PST

Hello I am having some issues. I have a MSI pc with a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I have always been able to connect wirelessly to this pc. Just over the last few days the connection is gone. My network isn't there anymore. I can connect as long as I plug in a Ethernet cable. I ran my antivirus and malwarebytes. Got rid of some malware. The connection is still gone. I don't even have a restore point anymore. I have to create one. I have some knowledge of computers but not a ton. I have checked my device manager it says it is enabled. I viewed my network connections and the driver shows but has a red x and has no connection if I unplug the cable. all my other devices we have connected to the router are working. Cell phones, ipads, laptops. Just not our family pc that as I said up until yesterday connected just fine.

Isn't the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, Ethernet?

The driver being a red x is another clue.

Malware recovery is pretty hard. While I think you could try reinstalling drivers from MSI some folk can't do that. So you save your files before you do what you can do. That is, restore the machine to it's factory condition and learn that malware is just bad news.

wifi problem

settings changed, or the wifi device has quit working. If you get a 'connect" message but due to encrypted channel that's all, then the WEP or WPA settings on computer needs to be reset. If you don't even get a "connected" message, and/or can't see signals, then the wifi device is dead.
