Question

Having issue with memory ram

Apr 24, 2015 1:11PM PDT

Recently I got BSOD, so I try troubleshot my pc. I never pass Windows memory diagnostic with 2 ram installed. So I check each memory ram and the result is ok. Then I check the mobo slot and the result is ok too. Any clue about the problem?
My pc configuration mobo asrock h81mgl, VGen 2x8Gb pc12800, cpu intel i5 4440, psu seasonic 520.Thanks.

It appears the ram and MB are incompatible. Have them fix it.

thanks for your reply. I'm still waiting reply from asrock seller in my country. I never think about the compatibility issue because the main board support memory capacity up to 16GB and memory type DDR3 1600.

Somehow I fix the problem by updating the bios into v1.90. Now my pc can boot with 2 ram installed and pass the windows memory diagnostic test. Thanks.

As you now know, BIOS updates can sometimes fix the problem. The only problem is sometimes BIOS updates don't fix the problem and sometimes BIOS updates can fail leaving your PC 'bricked' or inoperable.

The other takeway is ... better to buy more mainstream, better known, brand name RAM which you can find user ratings on. If you look at RAM sold thru Newegg, you see many buyer reviews that should give you a better sense of the cost, the performance and what really works over various systems.
