Thank you so much for the above assistance!! I'm having some trouble opening malwarebytes so I did open the link...besides that, you mentioned "asking" before installing apps...I'm not sure how you do that...many apps seem so legit. How can I either ask in the future and/or determine any that I already have??( which are not many, thankfully).
Thanks in advance
Ask in Apple forums about apps.
If you asked here I'm sure folk would have mentions Apple's own PDF feature as well as the shady app you mentioned.
The link covers both OSes. You need to follow the link about "If you are using an Apple computer running Mac OS, then use the following steps How to get rid of browser hijacker, pop-ups, ads from Mac"
This is the 1st 3 posts I've made since having a mac. I'm still learning and adjusting to a mac from windows.IDK what you mean...I followed the instructions in the 1st message and got rid of the apps that caused the problem, I was just wondering for future as well as. The only ones in the app store are the ones I should be installing is the jist..
What sort of trouble are you havinging
in opening Malwarebytes?
Is it the "Can't open this because it is from a strange place" or words to that effect?
unable to open malwarebytes
In the above message I followed the instructions for mac and there was a link to download malwarebytes, it opens & says download in green, it goes to my download folder then when I click on it there it brings me to where I started....going in circles??
https://www.malwarebytes.com takes you to the Malwarebytes site.
Hit the green download button
That puts a file into your downloads folder, the file is called Malwarebytes-Mac-18.104.22.168.pkg
This is an installer package which will step you through the process of installing the app.
I just downloaded it and did NOT get the message stated above. Follow the instructions and accept all the defaults.
Once finished, the installer will offer to move the installer app to the trash. Do it.
Once installed, it will launch. Do NOT click on the "upgrade now" button. The basic MWB is free.
Any problems, just post here
Thank you, when I went through your link it worked...It gave me a message that it was blocked and I adjusted my settings. The previous way did nothing... Much appreciated
A quick scan once a week will keep you clear of most of the nasty stuff.
Allow it to update itself, when it asks, or choose "Check for updates" from the menu bar
Feel free to ask any questions about your Mac or its software, here in the Mac forums.
Start a new thread for each problem.
Hi! Quick question about this -- do you know of any way I can do this if my Macbook is from 2009 and version 10.6.8 -- it wouldn't let me do the MWB because my OS isn't new enough
I'd start my own discussion.
Here it's buried and might get missed.
Whoever told you that your MacBook couldn't be updated
was sadly mistaken.
ALL the 2009 MacBook and MacBook Pro models are capable of upgrading to 10.11, some to 10.12, so you should have no problem getting your machine up to at least 10.8 or 10.9

Re: Cocoshamen issue n the reply
Like MeiC921 did, I also downloaded Doc to pdf as well and when you download this program I did not see an option to say 'No' I do not want any other software with this download let alone get the option to 'Opt Out'. I just noticed it in my Applications folder in 'Finder' tonight. I would love it if you can tell me how I access Apple's version of doc-to-pdf, please?
How to create a PDF file.
It's actually very easy and does not involve an app that you can access.
Simply create the document that you want to turn into a PDF and save it.
Now print it.
At the bottom left corner of the window that appears when you hit print you will see a dropdown button that says PDF
Click that and you will see all the PDF options displayed.
Choose the one you want, Save as PDF is handy and follow the instructions from there.
Holler back if you have problems
How do I get rid of cocshamen?
I removed it from Finder and deleted it from trash but it still is my default browser. I tried their uninstall and that came up with a warning that it was malware. What do I do to get rid of this?
