Have virus; cannot run any scanners; now what?

i am running Win98. we got this virus a few weeks ago and it took me almost 4 days to beat it. it showed up again last night about 9. i immediately ran TrendHousecall, but the virus blocked it from running the 2nd time. it has killed access to all of my other scanners: Avast, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot. SuperAntispyware was able to run one time, then it needed to reboot. upon reboot, all my scanners are dead.

i've tried downloading Hijack this and Trend; both are blocked from running.

HijackThis forum. Try renaming Hijacthis executable to something else then run it again so you can get the log and post in HijackThis forum.

yesterday, i was using Firefox. then i tried Internet Explorer and was able to get Trend Housecall to run. it found some issues, then corrected them, but i'm still locked out of most aspects of this computer. (for instance, cannot look at control panel; none of my virus/adware/malware scans will run)

i was able to get Hijack this to analise just now but couldnt find my print out papers fast enough (to know what to do with the report) and i lost the analysis (window closed). now it won't run again.

in the interim, i will try running Trend one more time, then Hijack this (have papers standing by so i know what to do with the report; hopefully can snag them before the virus shuts me down again).

No need to print HijackThis log

Try to run HijackThis again from the desktop. Click the "Do a system scan and save a logfile".
When it finished scanning, it will automatically save the log in your desktop and it will open the notepad with the scan result.
Post a copy of that log in one (1) of the Hijackthis forum below:

Open Hijackthis.exe, click "Do a system scan and save a logfile"
After the scan is finished, the notepad will open to display the log.
Copy the entire log information from the notepad to one (1) of the forums below:

The analysts in the forum will guide you on how to remove the malware that is blocking you to running or opening programs or any console in Windows.

cannot run 'hijack this' completely

even tho i run Trend Housecall and it tells me there is no problems on this computer, i cannot get in to my files; hijack this can open, but the window will not 'hold' till the "Analyze This" option shows up; the window closes automatically.

i am sure i've got some nasty bug, but i don't know how to get rid of it.

none of my other scanning pgms can run.

it's not compatible to your OS.

I suggest to go to one of the HJT forum in my earlier post. Start a new topic even without log of HijackThis. They will provide you other tools to use to get your PC fix.
