Question

have to replace cmos battery every time i boot?

Apr 27, 2014 5:07AM PDT

When i try to boot my computer, nothing at all happens. hard drives do turn on, fans don't spin, nothing. but, if i remove the cmos battery for 10 seconds and put it back in, the computer will boot no problem... i've replaced the battery and the same thing still happens. could it be psu related?

Since we don't know make or model.

This sounds like a motherboard failure. Now it could be a jumper in the wrong place or even malware but details are slim so the most likely is an old motherboard that has failed in some way.

Of course, if you have a DVM, you'd want to make sure the battery is a good one but I've had one odd instance where re-flashing the BIOS corrected a similar problem. You'd need the same or newer version of the MB manufacturer's BIOS image. Good luck.

Simple repair. Match the battery with a brand new one and replace it
