Have patience

by russ666 / May 13, 2006 1:36 AM PDT

Since these computers of ours and broadband connections and ALL the rest have begun to condition us to instant gratification, this does not mean that our many posts will be answered instantly or even at all. They (the moderaters) are as busy as we. Have patience, we all know it is urgent to receive a reply ASAP but our questions may not always be going to be seen as having wide appeal, If it has a narrow focus it may have to wait. If it seems accusatory or antagonistic to the moderater or some other poster, by the bylaws it can even be legitimately round-filed.

While all the moderators I converse with have a desire to help out, this forum is all volunteer. I'd scored 1 coffee cup, 2 t-shirts in about a decade of moderating. So kind words are good to read.

Thank you again,

Bob

Wow! Apart from the fact that you have been doing this longer than me, how come you get paid more than I do?

Your comments are appreciated. While moderating the Mac forums is fun, it is all volunteer stuff and gets fitted in when time allows.
The weeds and grass still grow up in the yard, even when I am helping other Mac users. Is there no justice? Happy

The annoying ones are the "drive by posters". Those that post a question in a number of different places, presumably get an answer from one of them, but never come back to say "problem fixed" Check out the "windows friendly attachment" post.

As I said, your comments are appreciated.

The weeds and grass are in attack mode and must be attended to. As i continue to "learn the ropes" on this vessel, learning how best to suck up properly had to come in there early lest i be thrown overboard with the rest of the bilge : ) my comment was sincere. It came to me in a flash of insight as i was pondering why i had been waiting so long to hear of another question posed on another thread. Once you have come to know and love me as much as my other contacts and can trust enough to reveal your mailing address, i hope i will be given the opportunity to reward you both handsomely. Soon after i check my lottery ticket stubbs i should think

Russ is so right. Having been a moderator on a group of moderate size (around 600+ when I left the post), I know what it means to have people either appreciate you (silently or not) or berate you--on occasion, in some pretty ugly terms, even when you are trying to help or remind them, gently, of forum rules. And I didn't have to look anything up or answer arcane technological questions. I am in awe of our moderators' energy and patience and the depth of their knowledge.

Our moderators' answers have saved me, many a time, from spinning my wheels when I had reached a dead end on a problem, and those suggestions and observations they have offered to others have often been equally helpful. I thank them with all my heart.

Jenny
