My main computer is connected, what do I need to add my laptop to this service? Will there be any additiional monthly charges?

I'm making assumptions here since your post is lacking in details.
Purchase a router. Today's routers are wired and wireless. You connect the router to the modem, then the PC to the router. Ports are clearly identified. Once you've set up the router you can run the laptop either wired or wireless.
You purchase the router. It's yours. No extra charges. Now. Some ISPs will supply the router and set it up for a fee and support.
You can configure a wireless router on your network so that you can use your home internet anywhere on your laptop. I think you need to pay only one time installation charges and after that you can do surfing without paying any monthly charges.
