Have I chosen the correct laptop?

Mar 28, 2016 1:02PM PDT

I am trying to get a laptop that will be good for college. I don't play any crazy CPU-intensive games so I don't think a dedicated graphics card is necessary. The screen resolution seems amazing. I will not purchase one without an SSD. However, I would prefer to have one with both HDD storage space and an SSD. With the 2 year complete warranty and taxes this computer will be 1,106.67 (I purchased it before the price went up). That is pretty much as much as I want to spend. I might go to $1,200 but that does not mean sticker price, that means out the door with a complete warranty and taxes included. I purchased the computer linked below at $899 sticker.

I have 30 days to return it at no cost to me so that means 30 days to play with what I THINK was a good choice while I do research on potential laptops which are better.

Reasons I like this laptop:
-Low weight
-Looks great
-Fingerprint scanning technology which allows me to log into applets and websites with the swipe of a finger
-Solid state drive with decent memory
-Intel Core i7-6500U even thought its the U version I'm not sure if I'll really need anymore power than that.

Walked on the warranty?
Mar 28, 2016 2:33PM PDT

What do you mean walked on the warranty? If I purchase a warranty and a company tries to not fulfill that deal then it is extremely easy to fix that issue. With a phone call and the right wording you can easily scare a company into following the law. Big companies sending out defective machines is common and easy to deal with. HP has offered me a free 30 day return policy as well, so that wouldn't be an issue.

Yes. Walked.

The calls were answered with "we've done all we can." HP lost me and I share the story.

6 months of calls, web surveys and no action. This is not the company I knew years ago.

That is horrible

I'm shocked they were so ballsy. Are you still out your money which was covered by warranty? Do you have any emails or documentation proving you tried to redeem the warranty? 6 months isn't too late. If I were you I would look into reporting this to the authorities and having a case made. You could actually sue them for this and get a lot more than you lost. I've seen it done.

I'm sorry you've dealt with so much hassle from this company. Definitely makes me re-think whether I'll keep my laptop past the 30 day mark.

After 9 months I took it as a sign they were no more.

The office supplied a replacement (Lenovo) and after 9 months it was clear HP was never going to make good. So if anyone asks for laptops, you imagine my reply does not include this make.

HP's social media couldn't help and there has been no apology. The laptop was sent to spare parts so it did some good to someone and as to legal, well the cost is not worth it.

I'll share the story and warn folk off. HP lost me and Dell is on the verge of losing a fellow moderator this year. It's bizarre what these companies will do and lose folk forever.
