Assuming that you download in your browser via the normal download window, that lets you choose between 'Open the file' or 'Save the file in a folder' and you choose Save, it seems you can do 2 things:
1. Select another folder than c:\windows\temp to save the file in
2. Alter the properties of the folder: right click in Computer and uncheck the "read only" checkbox if checked.
While in Computer and specifically in c:\windows\temp, set it to display Details and sort on date. Then delete every file that doesn't have todays date (click first, then click last with shift pressed also to select all). AWhat happens?
Then go into Notepad and try to save a new file in c:\windows\temp folder. What happens?
Also, in Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>General check then location of the folder that's used for Temporary Internet Files. What is it set to?
Have HP dv9720us Notebook with Vista Home Premium. When trying to download pictures from email or download software from CNET I get a window "Downloading c:\windows\temp (warning) c:\windows\temp could not be saved because you cannot change the contents of that folder.
Change the folder properties and try again or try saving in a different location. Do not know what the problem is, I have never had this happen before. Do not know how to chg folder properties or to what. HELP
