Have connection, but not with email or web

My broadband router is connected, and the icon on system tray is flashing saying there is a good connection, but I can't connect to my email server orthe web, it says the site can't be found. (am using a dial up connection at the moment) I rebooted my Netgear modem, still nothing, I don't know what else to do. I disabled Windows firewall connection. Its exactly the same on my desktop as on laptop (laptop is wireless). Have Windows XP SP1 on both computers, can anyone help please?

have you tried to connect without the router?

connect directly from PC to modem. Once you a good connection, then re-connect the router and reboot. Gives the computer only 1 thing to sort out at once. And keep
that firewall running. chuck
