Answer
This is true and a known thing. Try this.

When you move the Ethernet cable from device to device like PC to router the ISP locks onto the address of the first device. To reset, move like this.

1. Power off the modem.
2. Move the cable to the new device (PC, router, etc.)
3. Power up the modem, wait for the lights to stabilize then power up the router.

You may have to reboot the PC.

Try calling the ISP to have them explain how to change from PC to router as what I gave you didn't work.

Answer
Router configuration is needed
Sep 5, 2017 11:29PM PDT

Your PC accesses the internet via the modem so your internet connection is in place. Your router needs to be configured with all the right settings to all allow other PCs to connect to the internet via the router.
ISP-> Modem(has configuration-> Router(needs configuration) -> PC(has configuration)
