Question

Have a coby 32" lcdtv and no audio outups

Mar 7, 2015 8:20AM PST

O.K., not being difficult but seems my only answer would be to tie into my speakers internally and run a 3.5 to the exterior.
Here we go. The t.v.'s only output is to dolby pro logic receiver coax. All other connections are input only. Very frustrating. I want to hook up an external computer speaker system to the t.v.. The speakers and the sub are powered. just need the signal. Any other suggestions, I would certainly welcome. I am disabled and have no money to purchase an amp, do not have direct t.v. or a cable box. Do not play video games so no x box. no dvd or blue ray player. All I have is the t.v.. Thank you

Coax?

I usually see optical. Can you share a web page with the product?

PS. This one? I don't see coax output.

"The sound is terrible as others have stated and I would add, worst than most flat screens. In purchasing this unit I overlooked the fact that this Coby does not have any digital or analogue audio outputs to enable a work-around for this major "sound" drawback. I have purchased a "vizio" sound-bar to make up for the audio, but am forced to use my "audio out" from my cable box to push the audio through."

Please folk, model numbers.

no audio coby tv

Thank you very much From the directions in the manual it stated that the digital coax output must go into a dolby pro logic receiver, but I will give it a try. In lieu of using digital coax can I substitute that for a high quality rca cable? Thank you everyone for your help, Paul

Not necessarily

The Coby manual merely presents that particular option since it's a decent one. In reality though, you may be able to utilize a converter in-between which could turn the digital coaxial output into either digital optical OR analog. This would be a way to connect to a device other than an AV receiver. Something similar to the following might be worth trying:

http://www.amazon.com/Orei-DA21-Optical-Converter-Headphone/dp/B008EPW7TA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1425796370&sr=8-6&keywords=digital+coaxial+to+analog+converter

Bear in mind that PC speakers are always somewhat of a science experiment I'm afraid, with a certain degree of trial and error involved. And every TV model handles them slightly differently, as far as the 'external audio' settings are concerned.

no external audio coby t.v.
Mar 7, 2015 3:46PM PST

Well it gets even better, a friend of mine brought over his digital to analog converter along with a digital coax cable, hooked it into my amplified computer speaker system and nothing at all. In the t.v. the settings for digital output is grayed out and on Pulse code modulation. The other setting would be RAM, however I cannot choose. I believe PCM is where I need to be.....So anyways, does anybody have any more suggestions before I tap into the speaker circuit? I'm sure the innards could use a good cleaning...LOL, thanks again

Here's the clue

If the speakers are working, you have it set wrong. I did not find a product manual so I can't see the settings to see if there is one more setting such as Speakers External.

However, PCM would be the right first choice.

Good luck,
Bob

coby t.v. no audio
Mar 8, 2015 8:00AM PDT

Thank you Bob but all that I hear is a slight background noise, no other sound and very faint at that. It shows on the program screen the digital out settings, however it is grayed out. My assumption is that it will give options once it is hooked into a dolby pro logic receiver, Paul

Why would that be?
Mar 8, 2015 9:59AM PDT

PCM is just that and http://en.wikipedia.org/?title=S/PDIF reveals the amp/receiver can not control the bit stream. It must keep up and process as it comes out. From what I read it's a one way street.

coby tv no external audio outputs

Thank you Bob, that's what I kind of figured. I'll tap into the speaker wires and clean the set while I am at it. I appreciate all of the help. Paul
