Has EMachine resolved HD and DVD issues on their T6212?

May 19, 2005 6:08PM PDT

I read some time ago in this forum that some users of EMachine's T6212 were having HD and DVD related issues to deal with.

I read a post in this forum last night that someone else was having DVD problems with their recently purchased EMachine T6212.

Does anyone in this forum know if EMachine has corrected those problems on it's T6212 and have newer models been released for sale with those problems corrected?

I'd like to know and would probably buy one if I would know how to tell the difference between the older model T6212's which have the HD and DVD problems and the newer models which supposedly would not.

How would I be able to tell the difference between the 2 sets of model? Would there be a production date stamped somewhere on the computer that would let me know if I was purchasing a newer machine with the problems corrected or an older machine with the problems still on board?

Try to be a little more specific.

DVD drives still vanish under certain conditions in Windows. Not an Emachines exclusive. Also, stutter during playback is a widespread XP issue. Not an exclusive. Said drives also have a less than few year lifespan. Again, not an exclusive to Emachines with no plans to make 5 year DVD drives.

Far too many do not know that hard disks are temporary 5 year designs.

Add in the new spyware plague and you may want to try a Macintosh.

I have not heard or read such to make me think this is a exclusive problem with this model.

I have a problem
May 19, 2005 11:41PM PDT

My problem has nothing to do with the restore discs creation (that worked perfectly). My problem with the DVD drive is that I can load the movie, watch it, skip tracks, and everything. But the moment I try to SEARCH (fastforward or rewind) I encounter an error and am forced to quit. This happens in WMP and in Interactaul Player. I've contacted Emachine through email and they're basically leading me in circles and I know their "solutions" aren't going to solve the problem. At this point I have no idea why it's happening. I realize it's not a huge deal but it still bothers me. oh well.

That sounds like a typical DVD player software glitch. Try.

Try this. Boot up a GEEXBOX CD and see if that plays the DVD OK. Hint: type GEEXBOX into google.com

As it stands, Emachines didn't create, write that DVD software so you may never find a cure from them. Start looking to replace the defective software.

T6212 HDD problems.
May 21, 2005 6:28PM PDT

I was the one who first meantioned that I had been advised to hold off a while on this one because my local Best Buy salesman told me they had had many returned-all with HDD problems. It seems the problem has been solved in recent deliveries and I jumped in and bought one 4 days ago. The HDD was a Seagate previously, but mine has a Western Digital "WD1600BB" and runs perfectly, though there is a slightly annoying rattling sound.
Note of caution: Do not open the computer or mail in the rebate form for 2 or 3 weeks! If something goes wrong you cannot return it to Best Buy for replacement or refund if you do either of the above! I have left mine alone for now and will mail in the rebate claim form in about 2 weeks after I have thoroughly test drove this rig. Then I'll go to NewEgg.com and get myself more dual channel memory and a good video card. So far I am very impressed with just the standard equipment and everything works as hoped.
