I just purchased 2 980 dell desktops. When i received the PCs they did not have but 2GB memory. I had requested 4GB. I contacted Dell and through a very lengthy process they shipped me refurbished memory. I have refused the refurbished memory as my computers are brand new! This sounds similar to the above post. What's up with Dell using refurbished parts on new PCs. Is there not a code of ethics concerning using used parts when selling new computers?
Thanks,
GM
I recently had a problem with my Dell 1525 laptop freezing up on the Dell Welcome screen. After extensive troubleshooting I discovered that if I removed the 2 gb stick of memory the computer would work with just the 1 gb stick. Dell sent me a free 2 gb stick. It wouldn't work in any configuration by itself or with the 1 gb stick.
So Dell sent me another free set of 1-2gb stick and 1-1 gb stick. Only the 1 gb stick would work. So Dell decided that my motherboard was bad.
Yesterday they replaced my motherboard, the memory and my hard drive all with refurbished parts. That sucks for putting in a 9 month old computer but I digress. The work was done in my home by a very competent engineer. He couldn't get the new memory to work. Only the original 1 gb stick would work.
Now they have sent me 3-2gb sticks and 2-1gb sticks of refurbished memory in the last three weeks and only 1-1gb stick worked. I tried the memory in a brand new Acer Aspire laptop and got the same result. Only the 1-1gb stick worked.
I think now that they are just shipping out bad sticks of memory. I think changing out the motherboard was unnecessary. Now I have replaced a 9 month old mb with a refurbished one.
They want me to send my computer in for a thorough diagnostic check. I don't want to wait a month to get it back. They need to get to the root cause of why they keep shipping bad memory.
I've been dealing with a supervisor in India by the name of Nitin Bose. I'm trying now to get him to ship me brand new memory sticks still in their plastic wrappers.Theoretically they should be buying tons of it to put in their new laptops. Then if it still won't work I may send my laptop into the shop.
Has anybody elae seen this problem? Does anyone know anything else to do to try to troubleshoot the issue? All help will be gladly accepted.
Thanks in advance for your help. Have a great day.
