Harry Potter leak

Jul 20, 2007 8:53AM PDT

It appears that there have been multiple leaks of the new Harry Potter book. The New York Times web site had a review a couple of days ago based on a book that one of their staff bought earlier this week.
A couple of bittorrent sites that host pirated stuff had 'photocopies' available for download, although Scholastic apparently has been moving swiftly to remove the copies from the sites as they learned about them.
It's amazing how excited people are about this book.

So what's your professional opinion, Doc?

Will the world's children be twisted irreparably by the leak? And did Harry and Gandalf really go over Reichenbach Falls? Happy

'No' to both ...

I don't see any reason the books would irrevocably damage anyone unless they get used for projectiles. Some of them are big enough to do some damage!

I doubt Gandalf and Harry ever meet. I haven't read all the way through the last book yet so I can't be sure but I'd say its unlikely.

No Gandalf in Potter? Drat! No wonder I don't get invited to the cool parties.

over here a bunch of religious jews decided that launching the book on the sabbath was "desecrating the sabbath" so they put up a synopsis and the ending at 18:00 friday evening.....

My daughter is a Harry fanatic...

since the series began. She's been up all night reading the last book, which she bought at midnight. She was interviewed by the local paper and quoted extensively. She saw one of the "spoiler" websites and was outraged, but it won't diminish her enjoyment of the book.

I read the first five but kind of lost interest about a quarter of the way through book six, but I may pick it up again some day. They are very well written, but the mania seems overblown to me.

Did you see the "reading" on Jimmy Kimmel last night?

(NT) Nope, so I don't get it. Rowling is English, of course.

who may be a regular on the show (I don't watch it that often) ...was reading it with a heavy Hispanic accent and mispronouncing half the words. Not exactly highbrow humor, but goofy.

Second daughter picked up at mall after midnight Friday, wife didn't put it down except for food and potty breaks all day Saturday, all evening Saturday, late night Saturday, early morning Sunday. She finally came to bed around 2-3am. I have this perverse hope the preacher today will run overtime Wink
