Question

Harmon Kardin sound not working with Netflix

Jan 2, 2015 2:23PM PST

I have a Harmon Kardon sound bar. I had it hooked up to a Samsung LED smart tv and everything worked well with the smart tv apps like Netflix. I just bought a new Samsung series 7 UHD curved tv. The sound works for direct tv and movies through my blue ray player and such. However, when I go into Netflix and load a show or something to stream, it makes a pop noise and then has no sound. I cannot get sound to work for Netflix or HBOGO. The sound bar is connected to the tv through an optical cable. If I switch the audio on the tv from external to just the tv speakers, sound comes through. Can anyone troubleshoot this for me?

Answer
Ok, so why do you switch the TV to external?

I don't think I am getting the whole picture here. So how's the BRplayer and DirecTV connected?

Tv is set to external

It is set to external instead of TV speaker so that the sound will come from the sound bar. The directv box and the blue ray player are connected to the TV via HDMI cables. Then the HK sound bar is connected to the TV via optical cord. It's set up exactly the same as my other Samsung smart tv was and Netflix and ecerything worked fine.
