General discussion

Harman Kardon CP15

Jun 16, 2005 2:35PM PDT

I have read some very good reviews on this system, and its currently on sale at Circuit City for just $650!
If anyone knows anything about this system please let me know.

I am torn between it and the Onkyo LS-V955, but I have read that the HK has better vidoe and slightly better accoustics. I have a 42" Plasma and want to compliment it with a good DVD player and decent surround sound.

Thanks for your help!

Harman Kardon, Yamaha or the Onkyo...which to choose.

Hello,

After reviewing your selections for your HTIB, the Onkyo is out because you never want to purchase a HTIB that has the receiver and DVD combined. This setup always limits your options for connections and adding other components to your system later.

It was a tough decision between the Yamaha and Harman Kardon, but ultimately the Yamaha I feel is the better choice. While it has a 8" sub vs the HK's 10" sub, the Yamaha provides 100 watts per speaker vs 40 watts per speaker and has more features I believe you will enjoy such as the 29 different Cinema DSP (Digital Surround Processing) surround modes, example live, concert hall, living room, padded room Happy etc...

Any rate, feature by feature I believe you will be VERY pleased with the Yamaha.

As for the display, if you are not in a real hurry for the display, my suggestion would be to wait. Cannon and Toshiba will be introducing the SED line of displays very soon. SED is an acronym for "Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display" the next generation of high definition CRT's that will consume less power and provide a superior quality picture compared to the LCD, Plasma, LCoS and RPTV at a thickness of around 9 inches or so. It will blow the other displays away with the blacks, greys and color reproduction. They will be able to be viewed from any angle and in any lighting condition, just like the CRTs we are already familiar with. It just won't weigh a ton. Happy

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Take Care,
