Look for a Driver CD for your (unnamed) laptop. That's all that's needed.
I see you write you tried to use it but failed. Since you didn't heed the forum note or tell EXACTLY what you did to install the drivers you may have to take it in. This time take notes.
Bob
I have a laptop that's about 5 years old. I just did a reformat of the hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro. I have done the automatic update routine over and over until it told me that I have all of the critical updates, including Service Pack 2.
My problem now is that the system will not recognize the internal speakers, so I have no sound. The device in question is a C-Media AC97 audio device. I have uninstalled it. When I go to the Add Hardware Wizard, it finds the device just fine, but tells me "A problem has occured during installation. Your new hardware may not be working properly." It worked just fine yesterday before I did the reformat and reinstall. I have tried reinstalling the drivers from the disk that came with the laptop, but if the hardware won't install that doesn't help.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a fix here? ...or I did need to take it back to the store that custom built it for me?
