Hardware Config advice?

Oct 7, 2010 11:00PM PDT

Hi all, I was planning to get myself a desktop computer, and I don't want a pre-assembled piece. I want a custom mix, and I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with the hardware I should buy.
I would prefer a completely AMD-oriented setup(though it's nothing against Intel!) with a 500GB hard disk and 2GB or 4GB RAM. Which brand would you recommend?

I will be using this computer mostly for office documents and multimedia like watching the occassional movie or listening to music. Gaming is the last thing I will be using this PC for.

I do have a basic understanding of computer hardware, so I'm OK with it if you use a bit of jargon. Please do give some suggestions, and thanks!
