the new drives are about a grand.
To your question, I use both. I back up my PCs to an external HD and use an internal DVD-RW. Someday, something will die. But not all three.
Hello,
I need to back up my data. somewhere. I have a 40 GB laptop, with too little left. I'm not sure whether I should opt for external dvd burner or hard drive.
The hard drive provides the option of quick memory access, (not having to look for the cd) and I would get at least 100 GB.
The dvd burning option allows DVDs which are getting cheaper by the day, but don't always burn well. could scratch, get lost, get broken. but that's still better than any "accident" happenin to an external hard drive. Memory size only limited by the number of dvds I can buy, easily carriable, portable and so on.
In my opinion I was going to head for the external DVD burner, until my friend said... hey don't u want to wait for the next generation blue rays or high density dvds. Now i'm confused.
