Hard Drive Upgrade

I have a Compaq Laptop V6420US and would like to upgrade the original 80GB hard drive with something like...200GB. Do I need to purchase a specific type of Compaq or HP hard drive or will any notebook hard drive from Fry's, Best Buy, ect. work just as well ?

Not brand-specific...

In reply to: Hard Drive Upgrade

Compaq (now HP) doesn't actually make hard drives...they purchase a Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital, etc. just like anyone else and install it in their machines. Thus, any will do, provided it uses the same interface (PATA vs SATA) and is the same size format (2.5in vs 3.5in).

Hope this helps,
John

size limit

Just be aware that some bios / operating system versions have limits - for example my original windows xp disk won't format a partition bigger than 137G. So if yours is like that you'll be forced to partition the disc in two halves. It's no big deal, it's just frustrating.

Find the link for your PC. Click it and find the storage option. It will list the hard drives available for that specific laptop. I did not find V6420US listed. Is it an Armada, Evo, Presario? When you define the specific model you can find the hard drive.
