hard drive upgrade ?

Feb 23, 2004 3:53AM PST

I just got a 20gig hard drive that need to install in my other unit, the old one is a 7gig and its running out of space
Here?s my problem, I?ve tried using hdcopy and other programs but after copying all files (windows, dos and ect) windows will only recognize a 7gig drive not the 20gig that it really is
What can I use to transfer the entire drive to the larger drive and have it recognize it as a 20gig . oh yea I?m running windows xp pro
thanks for the help

Some offer free software to move it over.

You can use "Ghost" to copy the old hard drive to the new and all 20 Gigs will be there, or you can use "Partition Magic" to now resize the new hard drive to the full 20 Gigs.

First thing is to define what u are doing... adding a HD or replacing one. If you are replacing the HD, u need to get to the "setup" screens and make sure the BIOS is "seeing" the HD properly. After that u can hook the 7gb in as a 2nd and transfer. If just adding the 20 as a 2nd u need to run PQ magic (bes one I have found over the years) to format & setup the partitions.
