Hard drive sppeds up

by nbmi / July 15, 2005 7:55 AM PDT

Just recently my hard drive sounds like a jet takinging off. It doesn't do it all the time.
Is this a sign of my hard drive going bad?

Is it possible that you have the drive

turn off after a short period of non-use, and what you hear is it starting up after being not rotating.

Check your power Mgt settings in the BIOS and on the screen saver page.

that Smart Drive is enabled. That can give advance notice of potential drive failures.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
