Hard Drive Quit Reading CDs

by Dekalb_Danny / February 5, 2008 2:41 AM PST

Hi Everyone,
I have an emachine T2891 with a 60gb hard drive. It quit reading or writing cds. It still reads and plays dvds. Did I knock the head out of alignment? I did put two cds into it once by mistake. Any help would be appreciated.
Sincerely
Danny

Hard drive and CD device are different

You may have damaged the optical drive or it may have failed. First try using a CD cleaning disk in it. If it still fails to read, replace it.

Hard Drive you referring to is disk reader
by Dawg Monitor / February 5, 2008 7:04 AM PST

The Hard Disk Drive(Usually called the hard drive, HDD) has a disk like that is called the platter. Its permanently sealed in the HDD unless forced.

The thing your referring to is called the CD-ROM(DVD/CD-ROM, burner, etc). Its the one your able to put CDs in.

Back to subject, is it plugged in correctly? Could it be that its broken? Oddly, my old computer's CD and DVD-rom both broke down and wont read or wright CDs(And once placed back in will freeze the computer.
If all else fails replace it, I got CD-ROM for free from school =D
