Hard Drive problem

Jan 2, 2007 12:36AM PST

Hi,

I've got a 300GB Maxtor DiamondMax Hard Drive connected to my laptop through an external USB enclosure. The drive is formatted into three partitions. One of the partitions has stopped working (unfortunately the largest one with most of my files).

When I try to open the drive (in Windows XP MCE) it says, ?G:\ is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.?

When I try to test the partition with Partition Manager it says ?Incorrect file system ? file allocation faults (f.e.: crosslinked files). CHKDSK should be used to correct."

When I try to run chkdsk (from the command window) it says ?Corrupt master file table. CHKDSK aborted.?

Is there anything I can do to rescue the files that were on the disk? Thanks a lot in advance!

A few tools.

1. Try ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery.) If it works, then it's just a financial decision such as "Are my files worth this much?"

2. Try PC FILE INSPECTOR. Free but not as many tricks.

Trouble

File Inspector freezes when scanning the drive and ZAR doesn't go past 0% when scanning. That can't be good...

Then it's time for the pros.

Get a price from drivesavers.com

It's then the question of "are my files worth that much?"
