hard drive problem

Any time I try to scan or defag my hard drive system crashes.
I have a HP Pavilion 753n with windows XP Home.
After the crash I'm sent to window crash site saying that the problem was a driverThe following is what it says.(Product no longer supported: contact manufacturer

And more... But a failing hard disk can cause this message. Windows is less than reliable about the error message and may mislead us to think its a driver.

Test? I run a DRIVE FITNESS TEST often offered by the hard disk maker.

that was the problem, hard drive was failing.
downloaded that program. hard drive failed all tests.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
