they should have a utility that will perform a fairly thorough non destructive test of the drive. Most of these utilities will create a bootable disk image...floppy or CD ISO...which will make the process fairly simple. I'd recommend you try that if you are concerned about failure of the drive. Do back up what you can just in case. Good luck.
lately, when booting up, or on restart, my computer starts Check disk, and goes thru the 3 steps. In step 3, I get gobs of lines saying something to the fact of "deleting corrupt attribute record....from file record segment 67355. After lots of lines of that, it starts "recovering orphaned file....etc. Check disk doesn't finish. it aborts.
I'm clueless on this kind of stuff...any ideas? I'm guessing the HD is ready to take a big crap.
