Hard drive help!!

Jan 3, 2005 1:29PM PST

Hi;

I have a Maxtor 40 gb hard drive with 3 partitions, win2k, fat32 partitions.

The drive is detected in the bios, the little light on the hard drive lights up, but upon loading windows the WINDOWS 2000 screen freezes at the very first progress indicator.

I tried the hard drive as a slave in another computer that has Win2k installed on the master drive, and it was again detected in the bios, but when I went to My Computer the screen again froze and I couldn't see any of the files.

Obviously I know enough about computers to realize that there is something wrong with this hard drive, but I really need the files from the last 3 weeks off of it since my last backup

Is there ANYTHING I can try to revive this hard drive long enough to transfer a couple of hundred megs of docs off of it? Anything??

Have you tried to reinstall Win 2k. If it will boot up until Windows starts then maybe it is that software that has corrupted the drive. The others prolly work, but if not try reinstalling. You should not lose your files.
