There are apps to go looking.

But I could not find a machine sold today or last year with drive that small.

It appears that you are looking at a machine from the days where we were expected to go hunting or just reinstall that OS.

Did you try TREESIZE? It's over at http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/

While installing another hard drive (with help) discovered Dr C: (main) was like only 20 G & dr D: ((don`t know why) was the rest of 80G on Hard drive disk (60G) Sony had no reason on phone support why but also couldn`t explain Pent 4 processer hooked up to 1G mem at 133mg speed & couldnt tell me how to speed it up cause it was new. I was newbie * still am for most part. Click (Right) on computer or my computer then on properties & graph will show capacity & whats used maybe like me I should have been installing on dr D:, not C; just a thought good luck

Answer
Tried Doing Disk Cleanup With System Restore Reduction?
Feb 27, 2012 7:59AM PST

First, delete all Temporary Internet Files and all files in your various Temp folders.. They shouldn't be needed. Next, click on Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Cleanup. Once that opens, let it detect the various files it can save space with, then click on the "More Options" tab at the top, then click on the "Clean Up" button in the "System Restore" section.

In addition, please recognize that 52 GB's of hard drive space is almost nothing in today's world of large files.. I'll suggest you get a larger hard drive when possible.

Hope this helps.

By any chance ...

do you have an older version of Norton AV on that computer?

I ask because it will just keep trying to update itself and can't but it starts accumulating large amounts of large and small files.

Just took care of one that only showed 145 MEG free on a 160 GB drive and after running disk cleanup and getting rid of all but the latest restore point I could only free up a total of 165 Meg on the hard drive. I convinced the lady to let me get rid of her old Norton and to install Avast.

After uninstalling Norton she suddenly had 126 GB free on her hard drive AFTER installing Avast.
