Planning to DIY sort of stuff for making external hard drive.
Anybody knows which ones are good hard drive enclosures?

Many thanks in advance.

What determines "good".

I picked up a $7.99 2.5 inch enclosure and it's sweet. Runs on one USB 1.1 or 2.0 conneection, no extra power connection required.

I also have a "Metal Gear Box" for a 3.5 inch drive that is great since it has a hard aluminum slab shell. It's mechanical sound, dissipates the heat and I like it. But its only USB 2.0.

You requirements are too light.

While that may bother some, I use them all the time as well as people that know me. I picked up the 2.5 cheapie from computergeeks.com on a moonlight madness sale. It turned out to be very nice with the USB 1.1 and 2.0 compatibility and that it can run off of USB power. It's not much but a plastic case and some circuit board so don't drop or bash it around any more than you would your common laptop.

This is one I have -> http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=A-8818-N&cat=CAS
