Hard Drive acts like a CD Drive

by metallithrax / October 23, 2003 8:34 PM PDT

My Hard Drive (ExcelStor Technology J240) acts like a CD Drive. I cannot double click it to open, and have to use the right click menu. This menu also contains an autoplay option. I am using XP home.

did this happen by itself or did it come that way from the computer vendor? i think something has placed some drivers and a file called Autorun.inf onto the root directory of the hard drive with bad information in it. you will have to remove that file. it can be a hidden file, so you need to change Explorer's options to show all files.

About the autoplay entry.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / April 9, 2007 9:51 PM PDT

This can be added if we accidently copy a autorun.inf in C:\

This file is not required for XP so you can freely delete it.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
