There will be some even when you're not using it. Background services, indexing, delayed writes, etc., will cause HD flickering. Certain scheduled scans such as Windows Defender, AV programs, etc., will increase HD activity as well as will system restore. If you think someone is using your PC remotely, you can check just by unplugging the network cable. If the activity was due to such, that activity should cease.
My hard drive is showing a lot of activity even when I am not using the computer. I've checked and there are no active processes going. No virus scans or anything like that. I'm concerned about this. Has someone or something gained access to my computer. I'm using McAffe for security and it shows that I am fully protected. The 'hard drive activity light' flickers sometimes for a period of time and you can hear the drive ticking with activity. I'm not super computer literate but this really worries me. Does anybody have input.
I'm using a Dell XPS625 with a AMD Phenom X4 9850 at 2500 MHz, Vista Home Premium and 4G of RAM. If you need to know anything else I will be glad to supply.
My free period with McAffe from when I bought the computer is about one month shy of being over. They started sending me emails for future deals with them a few months ago and coincidentally I've noticed a few burps in the program since then. What's up? Am I paranoid?
